WHY IS COMPA DARIEN EMERGED?
Lack of the Gospel: The presence of the Catholic Church is strong; however, syncretism is predominant. According to information provided by the national office, it is recorded that the Full Gospel Church of God of Panama has only three established churches.
Poverty: According to the MEF, a survey shows that 70% of the population lives in poverty.
Illiteracy: 20% of the inhabitants are illiterate according to a study carried out by the Ministry of Education for the year 2018.
Geographical position: This aspect is favorable, but it also gives rise to being used in a negative way; and in this case Darién is currently being used as a transit route for migrants from different countries. It is considered that more than 500 people pass through this province.
The province of Darién, with an area of 16,803 km2, is located in the extreme east, limited to the north by the Province of Panama and the San Blas region; to the south with the Pacific Ocean and the Republic of Colombia; to the east with the Republic of Colombia, and to the west with the Pacific Ocean and the Province of Panama. It is made up of four districts, twenty-four corregimientos, seven hundred towns and two indigenous regions, and has a territorial extension of 16,671 km2. It has a population of 55,508 inhabitants and has 613 towns. (Wikipedia The Free Encyclopedia, 2019, p. Retrieved October 21, 2019).
LOCATION OF COMPA DARIEN
The capital of Darien is La Palma; however, the place with a more strategic position is Metetí. Puerto Quimba is located in the district of Metetí and mobilization from this point is more feasible. It is one of the nine districts that make up the district of Pinogana, which is located in the province of Darién (Panama). It covers an area of 869.5 km² and has a population of 7,976 people (2010 census de_cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b- 136bad5cf58d_ ). The district of Metetí serves as a second Darien capital, since many state institutions have headquarters or branches in the town. Its location on the inter-American highway has made it a commercial and transportation node for the entire province of Darién. From Metetí there is access to the towns located at el Darién profundo, in the direction of Yaviza. (Contributors, 2019, p. Retrieved on October 21, 2019).
In September, a trip was made to Metetí, where it was possible to see some land that is for sale. There is a piece of land that is in the center of Metetí, main street is 600 meters and It has a value of 13,000 dollars.
